Centaur Gaming Continues Its Race Ahead For Indiana

— Content Sponsored by Centaur Gaming —

POP QUIZ: Why has Indiana’s agribusiness seen tremendous growth over the past 20 years?

ANSWER: In addition to Indiana being an awesome state that attracts businesses from every industry, agribusiness has been spurred by the HORSE RACING INDUSTRY, which runs wider and deeper than you might think. Let me explain…

In 1988, Hoosiers voted that gambling should be allowed in Indiana and farmers and breeders went right to work. In September 1994, the first horse race track opened in Anderson, and a second followed in Shelbyville a few years later.

With much foresight, our state legislators passed a law in 2007 to permit electronic gaming at the state’s two horse race tracks and required a share of casino taxes to subsidize prize purses for their races. This meant that Indiana could compete with older, more established horse racing programs in other states – namely the racing stalwart to our south.

Fast forward to the present, and Indiana’s horse racing industry is thriving, and Centaur Gaming is proud to be leading the charge!

Centaur Gaming is an Indiana-owned and operated company, with its headquarters in Indianapolis, and employs over 2,000 Hoosiers at Hoosier Park Racing & Casino in Anderson, Indiana Grand Racing & Casino in Shelbyville, and three additional off-track betting locations in Indiana including the Winner’s Circle Pub, Grille & OTB in downtown Indianapolis and Winner’s Circle OTB and VooDoo BBQ & Grill in New Haven/Fort Wayne. Our race track casinos were recently named the areas’ most popular attractions, with Hoosier Park Racing & Casino and Indiana Grand Racing & Casino welcoming more than 6 million visits each year.

Led by chairman and CEO Rod Ratcliff and president and COO Jim Brown, Centaur Gaming has been making good on its 20-year company mission of bringing the economic and entertainment benefits of horse racing and casino gaming to communities throughout Indiana. A recent study on the impact of Indiana’s horse racing industry found that in addition to being responsible for the employment of more than 10,000 Hoosiers, horse racing’s benefits extend to all 92 Indiana counties and amount to upwards of $1 billion annually.

With Centaur Gaming as its bedrock, the horse racing industry is able to grow organically. For example, as more and more owners and trainers move to Indiana, they choose to buy goods and supplies from their Hoosier neighbors. “As Indiana horse racing continues to grow, so does the local economy. About 90% of the trainers at Indiana Grand buy their hay and feed locally here in Shelby County. And I see a lot of people coming to race in Indiana from neighboring states who are looking to build new horse farms here, which is a good thing and a sign that things are going great for Indiana horse racing,” says Ron Brown, an Indiana horse racing owner and trainer.

Giving Back

Like the video shows, Centaur Gaming encourages people to have fun. But we’re more than just a race track and casino company. We support efforts and numerous worthy causes in our host and surrounding communities throughout Indiana. Our employees maintain continual involvement in various community-related endeavors through volunteerism and service on local boards and organizations. The following is a glimpse at how we give back to the local and surrounding communities:

Politician Poll: Insight from those you’ll see on the ballot

In the days following the first Presidential debate, PoliticalBank.com teamed up with Opinion Savvy* to survey local, state, and federal candidates and elected officials (collectively, “Candidates”) across the country in the first ever “Candidate-only” political poll. Using our growing database of 2016 Candidates, Opinion Savvy ascertained “statistically significant” sentiments about this year’s Presidential election and other interesting issues of the day.

The question on everyone’s mind: “Who would win if the election was held today?”

According to our poll, Republican candidate Donald Trump is leading Democrat Hillary Clinton 46.4% to 44.1%, with Libertarian Gary Johnson (6.2%) in a distant third.** Interestingly, only 1.5% of Candidates are “Undecided,” which is lower than the general voting population according to recent polls.

According to our poll, roughly 22% of Democratic Candidates are voting for Donald Trump, and 22% of Republican Candidates are voting for Hillary Clinton. Where Trump is showing real strength is among “Independent/Other” Candidates, of whom 43% responded that they are voting for the New York businessman (Clinton 27.3%; Johnson 18.7%; Stein 9.5%). This number appears to affirm other national polls that reflect Trump leading with Independent voters.

When it comes to issues, “Jobs” is most important to Candidates’ voters regardless of what box they intend to check (55% of Clinton supporters, 41.7% of Trump supporters, and 66.1% of Johnson supporters). National Security is not nearly as important to Clinton supporters (12.3%) as it is Trump supporters (40.8%), which begs the question whether or not Republicans are naturally more concerned about national security or if this persuasion is being influenced by Trump.

Presidential partisanship aside, if you consider campaign finance laws dubious or otherwise inadequate…. you’re not alone. There is growing support for reform among our respondents: 57.9% “Strongly Approve” & 20.6% “Somewhat Approve” movements that promote financial transparency and mitigate the influence of private contributions in politics.

If you are a candidate or if you are thinking about running for office, over 65% of the Candidates we polled find running a campaign “somewhat” or “very” difficult. The good news is that PoliticalBank.com simplifies things. Grab your free account and see what we mean.

*Opinion Savvy is an Atlanta-based polling firm that focuses on delivering research using innovating methods of data collection. Bloomberg Politics ranked Opinion Savvy among the top three pollsters nationwide for 2016.

**Note: Republican Candidates outnumber all other other party affiliation types. As such, we surveyed more Republicans than Democrats, Libertarians, etc. However, the results were weighted for gender, region, and party affiliation using propensity scores. Weighting benchmarks were determined using U.S. census and other publicly available data.

How Centaur Gaming Transcends Horse Race Politics

— Content Sponsored by Centaur Gaming —

Look, you’re going to hear a lot of rhetoric from Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump, and other politicians this fall. But good politicians turn rhetoric into action. When it comes to making a difference in folks’ everyday lives, words mean very little. It’s about doing.

At Centaur, we don’t play games when it comes to doing what’s right for Indiana and the people who live here.

We own both of Indiana’s racetrack casinos, Hoosier Park Racing & Casino in Anderson and Indiana Grand Racing & Casino in Shelbyville, as well as three off track betting locations in Indiana including the Winner’s Circle Pub, Grille & OTB in downtown Indianapolis and Winner’s Circle OTB and VooDoo BBQ & Grill in New Haven/Fort Wayne. In total, we employ more than 2,000 hardworking Hoosiers.

The horse racing industry we support tallies an annual state economic impact of more than $1 billion and generates more than $69 million in state and local tax revenues, according to a study performed by Purdue University. Think about a horse living on a farm in Plainfield; his owner is buying feed, straw, hay, tack, and going to the local stores – “that’s real economic development,” explains Chairman and CEO Rod Ratcliff.

Since 2008, we have made $370 million in purchases from local and regional suppliers ($107 million of these procurements coming from minority and women owned businesses), invested more than $375 million in Indiana’s horse racing industry, with monies allocated to breed development for horses who will someday race on our tracks, infused more than $854 million into our host communities’ economies through local payroll, purchases, and payments to city and county government, and paid $500 million in state license fees that were used help Hoosiers who were struggling to pay their property taxes.

With the implementation of the “One Breed, One Track” program, our facilities now cater to specific types of racing. Hoosier Park solely features Standardbred horses (harness racing), while Indiana Grand caters to Thoroughbreds and Quarter Horses. To implement this program, Centaur stripped-down and rebuilt both tracks, which are now widely considered two of the highest quality racing surfaces in the country. Of course, this construction also relied on Hoosier suppliers and laborers.

So, when you hear politicians talk about all the things they will do if you elect them, just remember that Centaur Gaming has already done it – and we will continue doing our part to make Indiana the best place in the country to live, work, raise a family and of course… race horses!
